The United Nations General Assembly has established the International Day of Epidemic on December 27, in order to highlight the importance of preventing epidemics and preparing to collaborate and respond to them.

We urgently need strong and resilient health systems that reach people who are in situations of vulnerability.

If we do not pay attention at an international level, future pandemics could be more intense and serious than previous outbreaks. Raising public awareness, exchanging information, scientific knowledge and best practices, providing quality education and instituting epidemic awareness programs at the local, national, regional and global levels are essential as they are effective measures to prevent pandemics and respond to them.
